A few hours after the announcement of a hacker attack on the Norwegian parliament, the e-mail accounts of 10,000 municipal employees were also attacked. This was announced late Tuesday evening by Hedmark IKT, which operates the data systems of seven municipalities in southern Norway.
The employees had received an e-mail from a supposed colleague whose content contained a virus. Several employees are said to have opened the attachment. But it was unclear how many. The head of the company, Edvard Lysne, told the newspaper “Verden’s Gang” that about 10 000 recipients were affected by the attack.
On Tuesday, it had previously become known that the e-mail accounts of numerous members and employees of the parliament had been hacked. The extent of the damage and who might be behind the attack were not known. It was also initially unclear whether there was a connection to the attack on municipal employees.
